Kathmandu Rajan Thapa For the first time in Nepal, an oral and maxillofacial hospital dedicated entirely to the treatment of complex diseases and injuries related to the mouth, teeth, jaws (azuhar), face and neck is to be built. Om Samaj Dental Hospital, which has been active in the dental health sector for a long time, has said that it has formally started the process of building a hospital with state-of-the-art facilities in the Chabahil (Chisabel) area of Kathmandu.
It is believed that after the hospital comes into operation, thousands of Nepali patients who are forced to go abroad due to lack of specialized treatment will be able to get treatment in the country. Although oral and maxillofacial services in Nepal started with the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TU Teaching Hospital), a fully dedicated and modern hospital structure had not yet been built. Keeping this deficiency in mind, Om Samaj Dental Hospital is going to establish such a hospital for the first time in the country.

Dr. Dr. Dr. Subash Ghimire said, “The incidence of serious facial injuries, jaw fractures, oral and facial cancers, internal tumors, infections, and birth defects due to traffic and industrial accidents is increasing significantly in Nepal. These complex problems cannot be solved by general dentists or general surgeons. This requires specially trained maxillofacial specialists, state-of-the-art equipment, and complete infrastructure.”

According to Dr. Ghimire, until now, many Nepali patients have been forced to go abroad for such treatment, which has been creating financial burden, time wastage, and mental stress. “Now our goal is to eliminate the compulsion to go abroad for treatment. We will provide safe, affordable, and world-class maxillofacial services in Nepal,” he expressed his confidence.

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are specialists who perform surgeries for complex diseases and injuries related to the mouth, teeth, jaw, face, and neck. They have completed their studies in dentistry and then received specialized training in maxillofacial surgery.
The hospital to be built in Chabahil will have facilities like modern operation theatre, 3D digital imaging and scanning system, in-house laboratory, ICU, emergency room, anesthesia department, facial trauma unit and operative recovery ward. The hospital aims to provide all maxillofacial services under one roof.
Om Samaj Dental Hospital has been building trust in the society for the past few years through affordable and quality services, free health camps and public awareness programs. According to the hospital, “Om Samaj Dental Hospital is the hospital of choice for all sections of citizens, from street to home, from poor to rich.”
According to experts, the need for maxillofacial services is increasing in Nepal due to traffic accidents, industrial accidents, oral cancer, congenital diseases and serious infections. If the right treatment is not received on time, the risk of complex problems becoming life-threatening is high. Once the new hospital comes into operation, Nepali citizens are expected to receive high-quality treatment at home and the compulsion to migrate abroad will be reduced.
This hospital is believed to provide relief to thousands of patients and usher in a new era of world-class treatment in the country.
